Term Notes: The Israeli Patent Office has recently extended the period for applying for a patent term extension. Applicants now have a period of 60 days after their patents are issued to apply for an extension to the patent term.

07/04/2004 UPDATE: In November 2003, a new procedure was introduced to enable acceleration of the prosecution of patent applications. Under the new system, the applicant will be able to request accelerated examination 18 months from filing date.

Law Notes: Various amendments were made to the Patent Act as of 10/08/1995, including provisions for accession to the PCT.

The Israel Patent Law was amended on 17/02/1998; the changes relate to the pre-expiry exploitation of patents involving (mainly) pharmaceutical patents.

PCT regulations have been amended and now allow national or regional phase entry to be delayed until 30 months from the earliest priority date. Israel has not yet indicated when these changes will be made to its legislation.
