Law Notes: Any foreign patent can now be registered in Bahrain. The Gulf Cooperation Council countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates) have set up a patent system similar to the Eurasian Patent Convention. The law came into effect on 03/10/1998.

05/05/2004 UPDATE: A new law on patents has been issued in Bahrain and provides protection for patents of invention and utility models. The previous Law provided protection for patents of invention only. Under this new law, patents will be valid for twenty years from the date of filing, whilst utility models will be valid for ten years commencing on the date of application.
