Current awareness searching in Derwent World Patents Index - Setting up an SDI: STN
(files WPINDEX; WPIDS; WPIX)
First of all create your search query in the normal way. An example search is
given below:
|
=> s (C11D013-00 OR C11D009-50 OR A61K007-50)/ICM
103 C11D013-00/ICM
(C11D013-00/ICM)
64 C11D009-50/ICM
(C11D009-50/ICM)
1879 A61K007-50/ICM
(A61K007-50/ICM)
L1 2043 (C11D013-00 OR C11D009-50 OR
A61K007-50)/ICM |
The SDI command is then used to store this search as an SDI. The STN system will prompt you as shown below for all the relevant details required for the SDI to run correctly.
You can obtain help on SDIs when online by typing "help sdi".
=> sdi ENTER QUERY L# FOR SDI REQUEST OR (END):l1 ENTER UPDATE FIELD CODE (UP) OR ?:upp ENTER SDI REQUEST NAME, (AA001/S), OR END:test/s ENTER COST CENTER (NONE) OR NONE:. At the first prompt you should enter the L-number of the query you wish to save as an SDI, in this case L1.
The update code field options determine the type of records to be searched. For example if you specify "ED" here your search will only return records relating to new inventions (e.g. basics). If you also wish to keep abreast of new members (e.g. equivalents) that are added to an existing Derwent family in addition to new basics then you should use "UPP" instead.
The following additional update codes are also available for your use:
| UP UPAB UPA UPB UPKW UPTX UPCR UPWX UPS |
all records which have been updated all records with new abstracts all records where the polymer indexing has been updated all records where the chemical coding has been updated all records where the Keyword Indexing has been updated all records where the text in new content abstract fields has been updated all records in the Derwent Chemistry Resource (DCR) for use when DCR compounds are cited in Derwent WPI records for use in "linked" SDIs |
You can obtain further information on these update codes when online by typing "help update".
The name of your SDI must end with /S. In this example we have called the SDI "test/S".
If you enter a cost centre the SDI will appear marked to that cost centre on your STN invoice. By using "." you can signify the default parameter appearing in parentheses such as (NONE) in this case.
The title you enter appears on the cover page if the mail delivery option is chosen and you can look up details of your SDI at a later date using the command "D name/S" e.g.
=>D test/S |
You can chose to have your results delivered in a number of ways as shown. When choosing internet delivery you must suffix your e-mail address with ".internet".
The "eliminate answers previously seen" option should be used if you only wish to see records picked up by your SDI once. This feature is obviously irrelevant if you are only tracking basic records using the "ED" update code.
The display format of the results must be chosen and they can also be sorted if required. In this example we have specified the full format sorted by patent assignee name in ascending order. If you are worried about receiving a large number of records and a correspondingly large bill then the "maximum number of hits" option can act as a safeguard.
If your SDI yields no results then you will be notified of this if you answer yes to the "send SDI with no answers" prompt.
The SDI run frequency is where you specify whether the SDI should run every time the file is updated (everyupdate) or every calendar month (monthly).
The SDI will now run until it is deleted or until the expiry date entered has been reached. The command to delete an SDI is "delete name/S" e.g
=> delete test/S |
Although an SDI will run automatically it is also possible to execute them manually at any time using the ACTIVATE command e.g.
=> activate test/S TITLE: TEST L1 QUE (C11D013-00 OR C11D009-50 OR A61K007-50)/ICM => S L1 |
