Current awareness searching in Derwent World Patents Index - Setting up an SDI: Quest.Orbit
Setting up an SDI: Questel.Orbit (DWPI; DWPX)
Before setting up your SDI you should first specify the preferred postal or
e-mail address to which you would like the results delivered. In this example
we will set up an e-mail address using the SET EMAIL command. The AD command
would be used for designating postal addresses.
? set email E-Mail address : ? ian.pearce@derwent.co.uk New E-Mail address : Confirm this E-Mail address : Y / N ? y New E-Mail address valid |
The next stage in creating the SDI comprises running a search in Derwent WPI as normal. An example search is given below:
? /ic (C11D-013/00 OR C11D-009/50 OR A61K-007/50) ** SS 1: Results 5.577 |
After creating the search it now needs to be saved as an SDI and the display format of the results and delivery route specified. The search also needs to be named. In this example we have specified e-mail delivery in Rich Text Format (RTF) to the address previously created with the results displayed in MAXL format. We have called the search "test" and have also asked for the results to be sorted by Patent Assignee Name (SO /PAN).
? sdi test email rtf; pr maxl; so /pan DWPI - 12/07/2001 Creation Profile: test |
The update code field options within Derwent WPI determine the type of records to be searched. The default update code setting for an SDI within Derwent WPI is "UP" signifying basic records only. As we have not specified any update code when saving the SDI the search will utilise this default setting and will consequently only return records relating to new inventions (e.g. basics). The "UP" code also triggers the SDI to run every time the file is updated.
If you also wish to keep abreast of new members (e.g. equivalents) that are added to an existing Derwent family in addition to new basics then this must be explicitly mentioned when saving the SDI by use of the update code "UE" and the SURV command. The above command would consequently need to be expanded to
? sdi test email rtf; pr maxl; surv up ue; so /pan |
This SDI would again be triggered every time the file is updated.
The following additional update codes are also available for your use:
UB - assigned to records to which chemical indexing has been added
UA - assigned to records to which polymer indexing has been added
If you wish an SDI to run on a monthly basis instead then the corresponding monthly codes are UP4 for basics and UE4 for equivalents.
Therefore altering our example above to
? sdi test email rtf; pr maxl; surv up4 ue4; so /pan |
would change the SDI frequency to monthly instead of every update. There are NO corresponding monthly codes for UB and UA.
The SDI will now run until it is deleted. To see a list of the SDIs saved at any one time the command is SHOSDI. To review a specific SDI enter SHOSDI "name" e.g.
? SHOSDI test
