RESEARCH FRONT NO. 6810 ANTIOXIDANT METABOLISM AND DEFENSE SYSTEM IN HIGHER PLANTS

A veteran of 32 years in post graduate teaching, Professor Panneerselvam is Head of the Department of Botany, Annamalai University. He holds a Ph.D. in Plant Physiology, M.Sc. in Botany, M.Phil in Plant Physiology, and a B.Ed. Botany from Annamalai University. He has undertaken seven research projects and is currently conducting research in Stress Physiology, Stress Shock Proteins, Metabolism during NaCl Stress, Triazole Induced Metabolism and Bio-reclamation of salt affected soil.

Professor Panneerselvam has authored five books and published 95 research papers in international journals. A prolific speaker, he has delivered guest lectures at 52 universities and institutions and has chaired scientific sessions on the environment organised by the Department of Environment, Tamil Nadu and the U.G.C. Seminar on Plant Physiology and Biotechnology.

Professor Panneerselvam is Vice President of the Indian Society for Plant Physiology – New Delhi.(1998-1999) and Secretary, Annamalai University Teachers Association, and President, Mullai Horticultural Society. He sits on the Board of Studies at University of Madras, Kovumbu University, Karnataka, Calicut University, Madurai Kamaraj University, Bharathidasan University Trichirapalli and Thiruvalluvar University T.N.

A Fellow of the Indian Society for Plant Physiology in New Delhi (FISPP), Professor Panneerselvam is also a Life Member of the Indian Society for Plant Physiology since 1981 and the Indian Society for Plant Physiology and Bio-Chemistry since 1991. He is a Member of the Indian Botanical Society and Indian Society for Bio-Chemistry and Bio-Technology. He is also a member of the International Working Group on Plant Peroxidases in Geneva, Switzerland.
