Top Research Institutions in Germany and Switzerland Choose Data from Thomson Reuters Web of Science
Philadelphia, PA, London, UK — March 3, 2010 —
The individual Web of Science records will enable bibliometricians at Forschungszentrum Jülich and ETH Zurich to build performance indicators and benchmarks in order to:
• Develop deeper insights for scientific managers and heads of institutions into their own research
• Compete more effectively with peer institutions
• Make improved research-related investment decisions
“We are delighted that these prestigious research institutions have purchased data from Web of Science,” said Erik-Jan Van-Kleef, Director EMEA Sales, Thomson Reuters. “Their selection of Thomson Reuters data illustrates our continued commitment to deliver products and services that best help our clients achieve their research ambitions.”
Dr. Bernhard Mittermaier, Head of the Central Library, Forschungszentrum Jülich, said: “This purchase gives us the opportunity for more sophisticated and in-depth analyses using the data of Web of Science for worldwide bibliometric comparisons in science and research.”
Dr. Lothar Nunnenmacher, Head of Collection Development at ETH-Bibliothek, the main library of ETH Zurich, added: "We chose Thomson Reuters as it is a well known provider of high quality data for bibliometric analyses. Furthermore they will help us to improve internal workflows for our institutional bibliography and to create better discovery tools for our users.”
Individual Web of Science records can easily be exported to any relational system or proprietary platform and have been used as the basis for the United States National Science Foundation’s Science & Technology Indicators since the 1970s, and the European Union’s European Report on Science and Technology Indicators since 1994.
